Black Squier Sollophonic, Mirror Plate. Basic Spec |
|
This is a used Squier Affinity Tele, which has been converted into a budget Sollophonic. Like all Sollophonic solid bodied resonator guitars it has a Continental cone under the coverplate and has a bone top nut with widened string spacing. This one has been fitted with a mirror plastic coverplate to bring the price down, and it has a simple trapeze tailpiece. It has a maple saddle in a rosewood biscuit bridge, the open coverplate allows you to damp strings when you are playing too. It has a AlNiCo Squier Standard neck pickup, mounted directly to the coverplate, and it has a black Esquire style pickguard covering the font pickup cavity. This pickup is wired to controls on a black pickguard material plate on the upper bout and these controls are fitted with black chickenhead knobs. Strung with 12-54 strings it has a nice action for both slide and non-slide playing, and it has soundholes in the rear of the guitar. Nice slimmish all maple neck, though being a 2003 Affinity model it is slightly chunkier that the usual Affinity necks.
Being a used guitar this one has a bit of wear, the body has a few dings and dents but nothing serious, and the neck has some road-wear, giving it a nice "played-in" quality.
So a budget Sollophonic, yet still with that unmistakable Sollophonic playability and tone,

Blue Squier Sollophonic with Entwistle Pickup |
|
This is a blue Squier based Sollophonic with an Entwistle pickup. Like all Sollophonic solid bodied resonator guitars it has a Continental cone under the coverplate and a bone top nut with widened string spacing. This one is a lovely deep blue colour, it has a nice all maple neck, which is slightly chunkier that the usual Squier Affinity necks. It has an all rosewood biscuit bridge and saddle, and is strung with 12-54 strings with a nice action for both slide and non-slide playing. It is fitted with an Entwistle strat style pickup, rated at 6.6K, which is wired to controls on a plate in the bottom corner of the guitar with chrome knobs. This pickup gives a great warm tone through an amp, and Entwistle make some superb pickups. It has a lovely white pearl pickguard, which complements the blue body colour. Sieve pattern with ribs coverplate and traditional style tailpiece complete the package. Rather that soundholes, this guitar has a soundport in the rear, which is covered by a three ply grille. Lovely acoustic tone from this one, really sweet.
A great Sollophonic, stunning blue and pearl white looks, match its wonderful acoustic and amplified tone, and a really nice playable guitar for all kinds of music.

TeleMaster Style Esquire, Oak Body |
|
This is a bit of a one off, a Telemaster. A cross between a tele and a jazzmaster style guitar. This one has a body made from recycled oak, which has been laminated both vertically as well as horizontally to make a chunky body blank. The neck is one off an Aria guitar, which I have reshaped the headstock. Nice slim neck with a rosewood fingerboard, off a used guitar so the fingerboard has a bit of wear.
Very simple finish on this one, a couple of coats of clear acrylic varnish, to be faithful to the recycled timber. It is set up like an Esquire, with the single pickup, an AlNiCo 3 wired to the volume and tone. The swqitch is a dummy one, though I may well put in a three way Oak style one and wire it up to do a bit more. Stainless steel saddles on the toploader 3 saddle bridge, and strung with 10s strings.
A heavyweight tone machine, with an unusual styling, made from parts box stuff, what was once as set of school shelves is now a fine offset guitar that is great fun and no-nonsense to play
