Black Sollophonic with white chickenhead knobs. A classic Sollophonic with the white knobs giving it a slight twist. More of these on the way. |
All Black with Chickenhead controls. This guitar has its controls mounted on the top bout similar to the National resolectric, and these are fitted with chickenhead knobs. This all-black and chrome example is a great combination of playability and retro looks. Now in Germany, it was an export as well. |
Lovely Red and White and Chrome Sollophonic. Fender amp knobs on a chrome front mounted plate. Customer comments \\\"Looks even more beautiful than in the pictures on your website\\\". |
All Sollophonic guitars are fitted with bone top nuts, giving a better tone on open strings, particularly useful when using open tunings. They also have a slightly wider string spacing at the nut of 37mm instead of the usual 34- 35mm, which gives a bit more room for low end chord work. They also have a string spacing at the bridge of 55 - 57mm, giving a bit more room, for fingerstyle and fingerpick playing. |
All Sollophonic guitars have a magnetic pickup fitted, however these are of various types, including lower output types for vintage type tone, or higher output humcancelling ones for versatility and low noise when used with valve amps or at higher volumes. They are now all wired in such a way that their replacement is easy, should customers want to upgrade. The Hotrail pickups that I often fit are of superb quality and tone, and can be used in a whole range of musical styles. I do not however fit acoustic piezo style pickups to Sollophonic guitars as in my opinion the combination of piezo pickups and a vibrating metal cone, do not give anywhere near satisfactory results. The internal acoustic pickups required to really effectively amplify a resonator guitar would effectively double the price of my instruments, and would be very difficult and pricey to fit to effectively fit into the confined space of a solid bodied resonator guitar. The truth is that for higher volume, a magnetic pickup is best, as the resonator tone still cuts through in the sound, even with the most basic of amps, and will resist feedback too. For recording and low volume, it is the established wisdom that there is nothing to beat a good quality microphone for recording the true and complex tone of any resophonic guitar. At higer volumes, rolling back the tone controls on either amp or guitar will come very close to the sound of a resoantor guitar, and these Sollophonic guitars really have a tone of their own anyway!!! |
Natural + P90. This guitar is a superb guitar, with a great acoustic tone, a nice slide action and that warm P90 pickup. |
A natural wood Sollophonic, with a maple neck and a hotrail pickup. This guitar has been fitted with controls on the top bout, which have chicken head knobs, similar to the National Reso-lectric. A classy looking guitar, with sounds to match its retro looks. These guitars with this type of specification now sell for £330-£350 |
Butterscotch Sollophonic with a maple neck and a chrome humbucker. A nod to Keefs Micawber. A great guitar, with playability to match its looks. |
A custom made left handed Sollophonic, s-styled with a non-reverse headstock. It is fitted with a Bare Knuckle Black Dog pickup, which gives an awesome tone. I really cant praise these pickups highly enough, and this one suits this great and unique guitar. |
Based on a black Squier with a rosewood fingerboard, this is a lovely guitar to play, both slide and non-slide. Buyer said "A great guitar, turns heads both in sound and looks" |
This all black maple necked guitar was made with a smaller set of soundholes in the back, for a customer who wanted less acoustic volume, for late night practicing. Otherwise it has all the same features as all Sollophonic Tele conversions. He said "Guitar recieved, its lovely. It looks great and the tone is fantastic" |
This is a Sollophonic converted with a nod to Muddy Waters trademark red Tele. It has a maple neck, rosewood bridge and saddle, front mounted controls with Fender Amp knobs, and has a fitted bone nut. A great guitar, with a great sound, good for low volume practice of Muddys licks, then the ability to crank them out at volume when youve perfected them. I might make a few more of these, watch this site! |
This black guitar has full size soundholes based around the existing stringholes on a standard Telecaster. Some customers have requested a smaller pattern for a quieter acoustic volume, yet still having the capability for amplified tone and sound. Contact me if you would like a guitar with less holes in the back, I may be able to help. (Subject to availability) |
This is a Black solid body resonator, with a pearl scratchplate, and a Kent Armstrong pickup in the neck position. This guitar has an awesome, warm slide sound, and a superb acoustic tone as well. A stunner both in playabilty, sound and looks, a pleasure to build and a pleasure to play too. Buyer comments;-"Cheers, she's wonderful" |
This all black one sold almost as soon as I put it up on the site. It has an all maple neck, a lovely warm sounding front pick-up, and is a great slide guitar. More of these beauties on the way! Customer comments "A really excellent guitar. Playing it most evenings and really enjoying it" |
All Sollophonic guitars have soundholes in the back, giving greater volume, tone and versatility for recording and mic-ing up. I vary the pattern I use for the holes depending on the guitar itself. |
